We are at sea for 11 days between Hilo and Japan. It is possible to reach Japan sooner, but this time at sea is important for a few reasons: allowing the students and professors time to make headway in classes before we begin the erratic schedule that the scheduled ports will create, providing time for the shipboard community as a whole to integrate, and probably more that we aren't aware of! Anyway, if you are curious about how we spend our time at sea, basically, a typical day's schedule is:
0820-- Breakfast!
0900--School for the Emma and Alden starts!
1130--School ends!
1130--LUNCH!!!!
1400--Kids activities and games!
1600-1700-- Reading hour for Emma and Alden
1730--Dinner!
After dinner, a variety of activities and lectures---for example, before we head into each port, there are "pre-port" lectures including language lessons and handouts, cultural history and information, safety briefings, and field trip information.
We have been gaining an hours sleep as we have turned our clocks back several times and we lost AN ENTIRE DAY this week. We went to sleep on Monday and woke up on Wednesday.
One more exciting thing before we sign off for the day: we have an extended family now! Every week we will have dinner and get together with our "family". We have 6 new members of the Foreman family--on Sunday we are going to het together for dinner every week and this week we are also challenging another family to a game of Family Feud!! The "kids" are really excited and we will let you know who prevails! My "kids" are a pretty confident bunch and very competitive. Okay---We will post more later!
